A quick glance at Laura Michelle might have her music fans categorizing her in the typical glamorous pop-star category. The tall beauty rocks amazing hair, a perfect pout, and a fabulous pair of heels, but take a few more minutes and listen to her songs, watch her videos, and you’ll quickly learn that this singer is different: a fearless, funny, open and multifaceted voice determined to share humor and truth through her music.
Starting her music career before she was in pre-school, and having a brother who was six years older and involved in many activities, Laura found herself spending a lot of time in the backseat of the family car. To keep her little girl occupied, Laura’s mom played a variety of songs and encouraged singing along.
“By the time I was 22 months old, I could give her the tape that I wanted,” Laura recalls. “Music-that kept my attention.”
That very discipline continued to have a solid hold on Laura, who by age 8 had developed distinct tastes and allegiances. A big favorite was Donny Osmond, whose turn in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat proved particularly entrancing. “I had to start my day off with that, on the way to school,” Laura notes with a laugh. “If I didn’t, I would not have a good day--it was destined to be bad. I listened to it so much the CD broke.”
